Camps & Classes
Welcome to the Studio
Since opening its doors in January 2017, the Studio has served as Chesapeake Shakespeare Company’s premier space for classes, rehearsals, professional development, alternative performances, and community events. This gorgeous venue on Redwood Street, just next door to the theatre, is home to our adult and youth learning programs, offering fun and enriching courses for personal and professional growth. Non-actors and actors are welcome here.
Please see below for a list of commonly asked questions regarding CSC's camps and classes. Please email us at studio@chesapeakeshakespeare.com if you need additonal information about our programs.
Maintaining a healthy environment in The Studio
Covid 19 Protocols:
Health and Safety: PLEASE NOTE Masks may be worn if preferred. We ask participants to stay home if they are experiencing any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 or any other illness or if they have been exposed to someone who has had signs or symptoms of COVID-19. Please see CDC guidelines for specific COVID-19 symptoms.
Staying home when appropriate
- CSC Staff and campers should stay home and follow CDC recommendations if they have tested positive for or are showing symptoms of COVID-19.
- CSC will follow the CDC’s criteria to help inform when campers and employees should return to work if they have been sick with COVID-19
Hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette
- Teach and reinforce hand-washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and increase monitoring to ensure adherence among campers and staff.
- CSC Staff and campers should cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue. Used tissues should be thrown in the trash and hands washed immediately with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- If soap and water are not readily available, hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol should be used (for staff and older children who can safely use hand sanitizer).
Masks
The use of masks is one of many important strategies to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
- Masks offer some protection to the wearer and are also meant to protect others, in case the wearer is infected with the virus that causes COVID-19.
- Masks are recommended as a simple barrier to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air and onto other people when the person wearing the mask coughs, sneezes, talks, or raises their voice.
Adequate supplies
The Studio has accessible sinks and enough supplies for people to clean their hands and cover their coughs and sneezes. Supplies include soap, a way to dry hands (e.g., paper towels, hand dryer), tissues, hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol (for staff and older children who can safely use hand sanitizer), disinfectant wipes, and no-touch /foot-pedal trash cans (preferably covered).
Covid 19 Procedures:
Cleaning and disinfection
Frequently touched surfaces will be cleaned and disinfected often. Use of shared objects will be limited when possible. If shared objects are used, campers should wash hands or use hand sanitizer before and after use.
Ventilation
Increase air ventilation, through use of fans and open windows/fresh air. Use child-safe fans to increase the effectiveness of open windows. Ensure ventilation systems operate properly and provide acceptable indoor air quality. Studio air filters have been upgraded to CDC-recommended MERV-13. Increase total airflow supply to The Studio, when possible.
Improve central air filtration:
Inspect filter housing and racks to ensure appropriate filter fit. Check filters to ensure they are within service life and appropriately installed. Ensure restroom exhaust fans are functional and operating at full capacity.
Food service
The Studio participates in the Federal Summer Food program. Breakfast and lunches are free to campers. Campers may also decide to bring their own lunches. Teaching Artists and campers will wash their hands with soap and water for 20 seconds or use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol before and after eating. Campers will not share food, either brought from home or from the food service. Individuals handling food service will be gloved and will wash their hands after removing their gloves or after directly handling used food service items. No-touch trash cans, where possible, will be in use.

Attendance to our classes are important. Theatre is truly a collaborative process and missing can interrupt the flow of work and learning. We understand that emergencies and sicknesses may happen. If a student has to miss please email us prior to the start of class at studio@chesapeakeshakespeare.com to let us know. We ask that students don't miss more than one session.
Cancellations for camps or classes must be completed at least two weeks prior to the first session. Full refunds will be given to those who cancel prior to the start of the two-week period via their original form of payment. There will be no refunds issued outside of this time frame.
If a camp or class is cancelled due to low enrollment—or another unforeseen circumstance—you will be notified within one week prior to the first day. In this event, you will be given the option for a FULL refund or to apply your payment to a different class. Please note, we are unable to transfer payments for camps or classes to mainstage tickets in our theatre.
Also, please check cancellation/refund policies on our partner sites if you sign up for a program that does not take place at the Studio. Policies may differ depending on the organization.
In the event of snow or other inclement weather (e.g. thunderstorms in our outdoor spaces), a camp or class may be cancelled for the week. In this event, measures will be taken between the instructor(s) and student(s) to arrange a make-up day for the hours missed. Some programs have inclement weather days built into the schedule just in case, but not all.
Also, please check inclement weather policies on our partner sites if you sign up for a program that does not take place at the Studio. Policies may differ depending on the organization hosting the camp or class.

Not at all. Our programs are designed for actors and non-actors alike.
CSC instructors are professional artists from the Greater Baltimore Area. Many have worked with us as actors, directors, technicians, and management and bring their expertise of professional experience to the classroom.
All of our teaching artists hold degrees in higher education or are working towards one, and can also offer insight into further training if students seek advice on that.
To learn more about our current teaching artists, click here.
You may at the Studio. We have a greenroom area for guests to hang out if they need to make travel back and forth to the space easier.
