Since its beginning, CSC has been developing their pool of artists carefully and thoughtfully. It has developed into a collaboration of some of the most skilled classical actors/directors and designers in the area. The Chesapeake Shakespeare Company as the regional center of excellence for the producing of Shakespeare's works and other classic theater because of its company members.

Ian Gallanar- Artistic Director
Ian is the Founding Artistic Director of CSC and has been Artistic Director of a number of theater companies across the country including the Repertory Theater of America, Minnesota Shakespeare in the Park and The National Theatre for Children. He has directed over 100 professional productions including Taming of the Shrew, Much Ado About Nothing, Play it Again, Sam, Plaza Suite, Tales of Sherwood Forest and CSC's productions of Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Coriolanus, King Lear and As You Like It. He is an award winning writer and wrote and developed the national tour of Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego Live!. His original plays for children have been seen by more than a million children across the country. Ian has worked a professional actor, director and playwright for more than 25 years. Ian also serves on the Arts in Communities Panel for the Maryland State Arts Council.

Lesley Malin- Managing Director
Lesley is a multi-talented artist and manager with experience both in front of an audience and behind the scenes. In addition to serving as the Manging Director of New York's prestigious Lark Theatre, Lesley has worked with a variety of Maryland theater groups including The Baltimore Shakespeare Festival, The Mobtown Players and the Invisable Theatre Company. For CSC, Lesley has appeared as Gonerill in King Lear, Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Maria in Twelfth Night, Lady Capulet in Romeo and Juliet and the Abbes in The Comedy of Errors. Lesley is the founder of CSC's important Professional Artist Development program which provides free or low cost training to professionals in the the regional theater community. Lesley lives with her family in Baltimore, Maryland.

Heidi Busch- Producer
Heidi brings a great deal of experience in all facets of the theater. Heidi has worked as Producer, Managing Director, Director, Choreographer, Set Designer, Costume Designer, Actress and Teacher for companies across the country including the Repertory Theater of America, Circle-in-the Square, National Theatre for Children, Charlotte Children's Theater and many more. Heidi served as choreographer for CSC's productions of Romeo and Juliet and Much Ado About Nothing and designed sets for Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night and A Midsummer Night's Dream. She is a graduate of New York University's Tisch School for the Arts. Heidi makes Howard County, Maryland her home.

Tami Moon- Director of Programming
Tami is skilled as a manager and artist. Before coming to CSC, Tami was Group Outreach Coordinator at Baltimore's CENTERSTAGE. In addition to serving as Event Producer for 2007's CSC in the Ruins, she has appeared with CSC as Toinette in The Imaginary Invalid and Stage Managed our production of Taming of the Shrew. She has also appeared in productions of Balm in Gilead, Independence and Vinegar Tom. She holds a M.A. in Media and Performing Arts from Savannah College of Art & Design and a B.A. from the College of Charleston.

Kevin Costa- Education Director
is chair of the drama department and is an associate director of college counseling at McDonogh School in Owings Mills. He holds a Ph.D. in English from SUNY-Buffalo, with a concentration in Shakespeare, and he has trained in classical theatre at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. In addition to performing with CSC, Kevin has worked with many companies while living in Buffalo, including Shakespeare in Delaware Park, the Kavinoky Theatre, The Buffalo Ensemble Theatre, and the Lightsedge Theatre Company. He has performed in CSC productions of The Imaginary Invalid, King Lear and Taming of the Shrew. Kevin is the author of CSC's secondary school theater curriculum. He currently lives with is wife, Renee, in Owings Mills.

Rebecca Ellis- Marketing Director/Asst Managing Director
originally from Chicago, received her BFA in acting from NIU. Area credits include leading roles in A Shayna Maidel, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Man Who Came to Dinner, Here We Are, Rebecca and The Heiress, which received the Ruby Griffith Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Play. Rebecca has appeared in CSC productions of The Imaginary Invalid, Measure for Measure, A Midsummer Night's Dream (Helena), Much Ado About Nothing (Hero), Love's Labor's Lost (Jacquenetta) and portrayed the role of Dorotea in Dog in the Manger and now serves as CSC's Marketing Director and Asst. Managing Director. She lives in Howard County, MD.

Ashly Fishell- Director of Development and Sales
Ashly holds a B.S. in Theatre from Towson University. As an actress, Ashly has worked professionally with the National Players and the Baltimore Shakespeare Festival (where she completed an Internship in Arts Management). She has appeared in CSC productions of Love's Labor's Lost, The Imaginary Invalid, King Lear and Taming of the Shrew. During the summer of 2006, Ashly served as CSC’s Director of Advertising. She currently is the lifeline between the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company and the corporate community.



Patrick Kilpatrick- Associate Director
Pat has worked for classic and contemporary theater companies both locally and across the country. Pat has worked for Kansas City's Heart of America Shakespeare Festival, Repertory Theater of America and The Shakespeare Project. Pat has appeared with CSC in the title role of Henry V, as Nick Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Sir Andrew in Twelfth Night, Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, Claudio in Much Ado About Nothing, and the title role in Coriolanus. Pat directed the critically acclaimed Shakespeare Workshop production of Troilus & Cressida, named one of the three best stage productions in the Baltimore Area during 2004 by Baltimore's CityPaper. He also directed CSC's Taming of the Shrew which was named "Summer's Best" by BroadwayWorld.com. He recently directed Hood College's production of The Importance of Being Earnest. Pat recently was awarded Outstanding Actor by the 2005 Greater Baltimore Theater Awards for his performance as Bottom in A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Dan O'Brien- Associate Director
Dan is CSC's "go-to-guy" and has designed lights, served as set designer, master carpenter, composed music and performed (sometimes all in the same show). He designed the sets for Love's Labor's Lost, Comedy of Errors, Much Ado About Nothing and Troilus & Cressida. His lighting designs were featured in Twelfth Night, Comedy of Errors, Love's Labor's Lost and Troilus & Cressida and he performed as Feste in Twelfth Night, Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet and Hector in Troilus & Cressida. Dan lives in Baltimore where he is pursuing a career in music.

Christina Schlegel- Associate Director
Christina's significant talent has been on display in CSC productions of As You Like It (Rosalind)Twelfth Night (Viola), Troilus and Cressida (Ulysses), Coriolanus(ensemble) and Much Ado About Nothing (Hero). IIn addition, Christina served as Assistant Director on Comedy of Errors. She also directed CSC productions of Dogg's Troupe Hamlet by Tom Stoppard and Shakespeare's Greatest Hits. She has worked with a number of theaters including Arden Shakespeare Guild, The Kennedy Center and the Delaware Theatre Company. She is a graduate of NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.

Kristina Lambdin- Resident Costume Designer
is CSC's resident costume designer and has designed the much-praised costumes for King Lear, Taming of the Shrew, A Midsummer Night's Dream (for which she won the 2005 Greater Baltimore Theater Award for Outstanding Costume Design), Dog in the Manger, Much Ado About Nothing, and Romeo and Juliet. Kristina, a Towson University costume design graduate, is currently the Costume Coordinator for the Baltimore Opera Company. As a free-lance costume designer, Kristina has worked for Axis Theatre, Mobtown Players, Children's Theatre Association, and Rep Stage.


 

Jeannie Anderson- Artistic Associate
Jeannie is a multi-talented artist and has been quietly contributing to CSC since its inception. She has constructed sets and props on all of CSC's show, but best known for her work on Comedy of Errors, Much Ado About Nothing, Measure for Measure and Dog in the Manger. Jeannie is a carpenter who lives in Baltimore.

Steve Beall- Artistic Associate
Steve has appeared in the Washington/Baltimore area at Bay Theatre Company, Didactic Theatre Company, Journeymen Theater Company, Rep Stage, Mobtown Players, and Fluid Movement. Recent roles include Spinning Into Butter (Dean Burton Strauss); It's a Wonderful Species (Darwin); Love's Labor's Lost (Don Armado); King Lear (Kent) and Taming of the Shrew (Baptista); Measure for Measure (Escalus/Barnardine); Beautiful Child (Harry); Coriolanus (Cominius); All My Sons (Joe Keller); Arms and the Man (Petkoff); The Tempest (Sebastian); The Odd Couple (Speed); Hedda Gabler (Judge Brack); Gaslight (Inspector Rough); Rumors (Ken); Jake's Women (Jake.) He is becoming difficult to avoid, featured in numerous commercials, as well as industrial and independent films.

Sarah Curnoles- Artistic Director
Dave Eske- Artistic Associate
Dave has technical and design experience with theater companies throughout the Baltimore-Washington region. For CSC, he has served as production manager for the outdoor Shakespeare in the Ruins productions the last 3 summers. He was set designer for the Helen Hayes Award winning Toby's Dinner Theatre productions of Jekyll and Hyde and Ragtime. He is Technical Director at the Gordon Center for Performing Arts and holds a B.A. from Washington College. Dave is currently working on his first solo CD featuring his original compositions for acoustic guitar.
Karen Eske-Artistic Associate
Karen has appeared in CSC’s Coriolanus, and on numerous local stages. Her credits include acting, costume construction and production coordination. She is Director of Theatre Services at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center where she oversees front of house operations and the volunteer usher program at the Hippodrome Theatre. Karen holds a B.A. in music from Washington College.
Valerie Fenton- Artistic Associate
Val has recieved great positive attention in the press for her performances on area stages. She has appeared with The National Players, The Washington Shakespeare Company and The Richmond Shakespeare Festival among others. For CSC, she has been seen as Olivia in Twelfth Night, Cressida in Troilus & Cressida, Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing (for which she won the 2004 Greater Baltimore Theater Award for Outstanding Actress), Marcela in Dog in the Manger and Cordelia in King Lear. Other Shakespeare roles include Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Adriana in The Comedy of Errors. Val lives in Washington, DC .


BJ Gailey- Artistic Associate
BJ is one of the co-founders of CSC. He appeared as an actor in CSC productions of Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet, King Lear and Taming of the Shrew. He has toured professionally with the Repertory Theater of America in productions of Sylvia and Chapter Two. He received his BA from Truman State University his MA in theatre from Central Missouri State University.
Tara Garwood- Artistic Associate
Tara has appeared in CSC productions of : Comedy of Errors (Luciana), Troilus and Cressida (Thersites), A Midsummer Night's Dream (Peaseblossom) and Dog in the Manger (Clara). Other local credits: Miranda, The Tempest (Baltimore Shakespeare Festival); Rosamund, The Robber Bridegroom (American Century Theatre); Puck, A Midsummer Night's Dream (Mobtown Players). Tara also works in TV and film. You can catch up with her at taragarwood.com. Tara lives in Mongomery County and is a member of Actor's Equity Association.
Scott Graham- Artistic Associate
Scott has a very active acting career and has performed for a number of companies including Arena Stage, Washington Shakespeare Company and The National Players. He is a founding member of Company 13 where he was recently seen in their acclaimed production of 12 Angry Men. Scott has appeared in CSC's productions of Twelfth Night (Antonio/Sea Captain), Troilus & Cressida (Achiles), Much Ado About Nothing (Benedick), Dog in the Manger (Teodoro), King Lear (Cornwall) and Taming of The Shrew (Lucentio). Scott lives in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Ellen Houseknecht- Artistic Associate
Ellen has served as Stage Manager for CSC productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream and The Imaginary Invalid and Prodcution Stage Manager for King Lear and Taming of the Shrew and Production Manager on Love's Labor's Lost. She has also stage managed for Rorschach Theatre ( The Beard of Avon), Beachy's Dessert Theatre, Baltimore Children's Theatre, the Shakespeare Project in Frederick, Run of the Mill Theater and several theatres in Pennsylvania, as well as Rep Stage and Olney Theatre Center. In addition, Ellen has worked as a scenic carpenter on over 60 productions, including several as Master Carpenter.
Lorraine Imwold- Artistic Associate
Lorraine is a key member of the Chesapeake Shakespeare company having served as an actor, costume designer, wardrobe master and box office manager for CSC. She performed in CSC productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream, Coriolanus and Love's Labor's Lost and designed costumes for Coriolanus. Lorraine has also appeared with the Mobtown Players and Spotlighters.
Chuck Leonard- Artistic Associate
Chuck is an actor/singer/dancer/director and is the Artistic Director of Shadow Block Productions. He taught theater at Miami University (Ohio) for seven years. He has appeared in a number of local productions and currently teaches creative drama and designs and choreographs for area schools. Chuck was seen in CSC's productions of The Imaginary Invalid, Much Ado About Nothing as Antonio and A Midsummer Night's Dream as Theseus. Chuck served as Education Director for CSC during its 2005-2006 season. He earned an MA in directing from Miami University. Chuck resides in Arlington, Virginia with his wife Jeannie and two children.
Jenny Leopold-Artistic Associate
Jenny Leopold directed the Fall 2006 Shakespeare Workshop production of Love's Labor's Lost and has performed with CSC in King Lear, Taming of the Shrew, and Coriolanus; she will be directing the workshop production of Love's Labours Lost this fall. Jenny was seen last spring in Rep Stage's production of Hamlet and has performed in and/or directed shows with various community theaters throughout the area. She teaches English at Howard Community College and serves on the board of the Howard County Arts Council. Jenny has a B.A. from Oberlin College and a M.A. from Georgetown University; she lives in Columbia with her husband Jay and their two daughters.
Frank Mancino- Artistic Associate
Kate Michelsen- Artistic Associate
Kate is a graduate from Middlebury College (1999.5) with a BA in Theatre. A Nantucket native, she has lived in the DC area for 5 years. For CSC, Kate has performed as Kate in Taming of the Shrew, Isabella in Measure for Measure and Philostrate in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Other favorite roles: Emilia in Desdemona...a Play About a Handkerchief (Co.13), Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing (Co.13), Olivia in Twelfth Night (Summer Shakespeare at OTC) and Dromio of Syracuse in Comedy of Errors (National Players, OTC).
Charlie Mitchell- Artistic Associate
Charlie was seen as the wheel chair bound Junius Brutus in CSC's Coriolanus and Egeus and Snout in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Charlie received his BFA in Acting from Ithaca College, an MA in Playwrighting from Boston University, and a PhD in Theatre from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is now an assistant professor of Theatre at Loyola College where he has directed City of Angels, The Marriage of Bette and Boo, Cabaret, and A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Frank Moorman- Artistic Associate

Audiences at many area theatres are familiar with Frank's consistently strong performances in such plays as Learned Ladies, The Play About the Baby, The
Heiress, A Shayna Maidel
, as well as a one-man show, That Certain Cervantes. For CSC, he has performed in Twelfth Night (Sea Captain), Romeo and Juliet (Escalus), Much Ado About Nothing (Don Pedro), Dog in the Manger (Ricardo), A Midsummer Night's Dream (Oberon), Taming of the Shrew (Vincentio) and a memorable turn as the title character in King Lear. Frank lives with his family in Anne Arundel County.
Karen Morgan - Artistic Associate
Karen has appeared in CSC productions of Coriolanus, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet and Measure for Measure. She has been with the Chesapeake Shakespeare Company since the beginning. She has appeared with a number of local companies and played the title role of Sylvia for the Bowie Community Theatre. She is an Attorney and lives in Anne Arrundal County, Maryland.
Chris Niebling - Artistic Associate
Chris is an actor,director and fight choreographer who has made a significant contribution to CSC. Chris toured with the National Players and was a founding member of Vermont's Certain Players. Favorite roles include: Vince in Buried Child, Damis in Tartuffe and Antipholus in Comedy of Errors. Chris has appeared in CSC's productions of Twelfth Night (Sebastian), Troilus & Cressida (Diomedes), Much Ado About Nothing (Don John), Dog in the Manger (Frederico), Coriolanus (Aufidius), The Imgaginary Invalid and King Lear (Edmund). He also directed f the 2004 Shakespeare Workshop production of Measure for Measure. Chris lives in Washington DC.
Mary Pohlig-Artistic Associate
Before returning backstage Mary worked as an actress on stage and in film and television for many years. Since her return behind the scenes she has worked on Night of the Iguana (Spotlighters; Production Manager), Meet Me in St. Louis(Cockpit in Court; Stage Manager) The Dog in the Manger(CSC; Stage Manager). Mary also served as Production Manager for CSC's recent production of The Imaginary Invalid.
John Sadowsky- Artistic Associate
John has appeared with CSC in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Measure for Measure and Dog in the Manger and performed as Leonato-for-a-weekend in Much Ado About Nothing . John manages CSC's Shakespeare Pub Night events. He has appeared with Mobtown Players, Spotlighters Theater, Fells Point Corner Theater, Arena Players, etc., and the occasional independent film. Offstage, he is a research mathematician with Zeta Associates in Fairfax, Virginia and is a resident of Howard County, Maryland.
Scott Alan Small- Artistic Associate

Scott has been acting for the better part of 3 decades. Some favorite roles have been  14th Earl in The Ruling Class, Tartuffe, Claudius in Hamlet, and as one of the Ensemble of The Compleat Wrks of Wllm Shaksper - Abridged. With CSC, you have seen him as Duke Vincentio in M4M, Longaville in LLL, and most recently as the germaphobe Bensinger in The Front Page. Scott lives with his wife Sara in Catonsville, along with anywhere from 2-4 children and a dog

Nathan Thomas- Text Consultant, Artistic Associate
Over the past twenty years, Nathan has had one foot firmly planted on the professional stage while the other one solidly lives in the academic community. As an asst. professor at in Reading, PA's Alvernia College, Nathan teaches acting, voice an movement. In the past he has been seen as Shylock in The Merchant of Venice and Herb in I Ought To Be in Pictures. Nathan was last seen as Argon in The Imaginary Invalid and Peter Quince in CSC's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream. He also appeared as Dogberry in 2004's Much Ado About Nothing. Nathan is a specialist in eurythmics and the work of Émile Jaques-Dalcroze. He received his PHD in drama from Michigan State University. Dr. Thomas resides in Downingtown, PA.
Jeff Tremper- Artistic Associate
Jeff has been acting for a little over eight years now. He is a Baltimore resident with a degree in acting from UMBC. His favorite theatre is comedy with an emphasis on physical, and movement based bafoonery. Jeff has worked primarily for local non-paying community based companies such as The Mobtown Players, The Unmentionable Theatre, Spotlighters, The Livingroom Company and The Munchable Carpet. He has appeared in CSC productions of Troilus and Cressida and Dog in the Manger.

Wayne Willinger-Artistic Associate
Wayne is CSC's most active actor having performed in all but one of CSC's productions - most recently in King Lear (Edgar), Taming of the Shrew, The Imaginary Invalid and Coriolanus. Wayne has also performed as Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Duke Orsino in Tweflth Night, Tybalt in Romeo and Juliet, Antipholus in The Comedy of Errors, Nestor in Troilus & Cressida, Borrachio in Much Ado About Nothing, Hamlet in the Dogg's Troupe Hamlet, Lucio in Measure for Measure and three seperate roles in Dog in the Manger. He has also been seen on local stages in the title role of Macbeth for the Invisable Theater Company and has worked with companies like the Mobtown Players, Baltimore Shakespeare Festival, Company 13 and others. He was recently seen in the Baltimore Opera's production of Rossini's The Seige of Corinth. Wayne is a resident of Baltimore City and to many, the face of CSC.
