CHESAPEAKE SHAKESPEARE COMPANY PRESENTS:
IT’S THE COMEDY OF ERRORS, HON!
SHAKESPEARE’S RIOTOUS, FRENETIC FARCE GETS A BALTIMORE UPDATE.
Baltimore (1.24.2025) - What do Edgar Allan Poe, a jazz legend, and a handheld drill have in common? They’re all from the Greatest City in America -- Baltimore! Chesapeake Shakespeare Company (CSC) has always held an affectionate appreciation for its hometown. For its first show of 2025 and its hundredth production in its history, that affection is on full flamingo display with It’s The Comedy of Errors, Hon!
CSC Founding Artistic Director Ian Gallanar, known for his popular adaptations infused with local humor and references, brings his keen comic perspective to one of Shakespeare’s wackiest farces. This adaptation channels Baltimore’s charm and character, transforming Shakespeare’s story into a playful celebration of the city. “It’s a love letter to my adopted city- this great, quirky, eccentric, wonderful Baltimore,” he says.
“After two successful and heartfelt productions featuring works from August Wilson and Dickens this fall, we’re excited to kick off 2025 with silliness and Shakespeare,” says Producing Executive Director Lesley Malin. “With a special connection to Baltimore and a deep history of producing great Shakespeare, CSC is charmed to launch another exceptional year of theatre. Ian’s vision for our 100th show is sure to entertain, surprise, and remind our patrons why CSC is such an integral part of Charm City.”
In It’s The Comedy of Errors, Hon!, not one but two sets of twins separated at birth find themselves in Baltimore, sparking a whirlwind of hilarious, misunderstandings, absurd romantic mix-ups, and heartfelt reunions. Gallanar’s Baltimore-inspired twist incorporates local landmarks and vibrant personalities, making this a uniquely unforgettable and wildly fun evening of theatre.
