Mary Stuart

2025 MS SHOW PAGE HEADER

If she lives, you die. If she dies, you live.

Dawn McAndrews makes her CSC debut to direct this historic clash of two queens. One in powerOne in prison. Translated from Friedrich Schiller. Mary, Queen of Scots, and Elizabeth I collide in this intense depiction of their infamous political – and personal – rivalry.

Join us for Peter Oswald’s translation of Mary Stuart, written in his characteristic style, a mixture of prose and poetry. The production opened in 2005 to rave reviews. It went on to play London’s West End and Broadway where it received seven Tony Award nominations.

“Peter Oswald’s skillful adaptation gives the work new life. It is a work that honors both the story’s classical roots and modern sensibilities.” – DC Theatre Scene
